How to Write a CV That Gets Interviews in Pakistan (With Free Template)

The short version

  • Keep it to 1 page (fresh graduates) or 2 pages (experienced)
  • Lead with results, not duties
  • Tailor it to every job you apply for
  • Send it as a PDF with a clear file name

Recruiters in Pakistan often receive hundreds of CVs for one post and spend only a few seconds on each. A clear, focused CV can be the difference between an interview call and silence. Here is how to write one.

The right structure

  1. Header: full name, city, phone number, professional email and LinkedIn profile. A photo is common in Pakistan but optional for multinationals.
  2. Professional summary: 2–3 lines on who you are, your key skills and what you are looking for.
  3. Experience: most recent first. Include job title, organisation, dates and 3–5 bullet points of achievements.
  4. Education: degree, university, year and CGPA (if 3.0 or above). Add your final-year project if relevant.
  5. Skills: technical skills (Excel, Python, AutoCAD, accounting software) and languages.
  6. Certifications, projects and volunteer work: especially useful for fresh graduates.

Write achievements, not duties

Weak Strong
Responsible for social media Grew the society’s Facebook page from 2,000 to 9,500 followers in 6 months
Worked on sales Achieved 115% of the quarterly sales target across 40 retail outlets
Did internship at a bank Processed 300+ account-opening forms and reduced errors by redesigning a checklist

Numbers make your work real. Use them wherever you honestly can.

Tips for fresh graduates

  • Put education and projects above experience if you have little work history.
  • Include internships, freelancing, teaching or tutoring, and university society roles.
  • Add short courses from reputable platforms if they relate to the job.
  • Do not pad your CV with unrelated hobbies.

Applying for government jobs

Federal and provincial jobs usually require a specific application form (FPSC, PPSC, SPSC, KPPSC and others) rather than a CV. Follow the advertisement exactly: attach attested documents, pay the fee correctly and meet the age and domicile criteria. For competitive exams, see our CSS 2027 guide.

Common mistakes

  • Spelling and grammar errors. Read it aloud and ask a friend to proofread.
  • Unprofessional email addresses (use name.surname@…)
  • Including CNIC number, father’s income or religion. These are not needed on a CV.
  • Sending a Word file that breaks formatting; send a PDF instead.
  • Using one generic CV for every job
