The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) is one of Pakistan’s top universities. It ranks 601–650 in the THE World University Rankings 2027. Admission to its BS programmes in engineering, computing, business, sciences and other fields is through the NUST Entry Test (NET). If you are in FSc Part-II or A-levels now, NET-2027 is the test for you.
When is NET 2027?
NUST runs NET in several series so students can attempt it more than once. In the 2026 cycle there were four series. Based on that pattern, registration for NET-2027 Series-1 is expected to open in October 2026, with later series running into the first half of 2027. NUST has not published the official NET-2027 dates at the time of writing, so check the official updates page regularly.
Test modes and centres
- CBNET: computer-based test, offered on many dates
- PBNET: paper-based test, on fixed dates
- Centres in 2026 included Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta and Gilgit, plus overseas options for some series
Eligibility (BS programmes)
- At least 60% marks in matric (SSC) and FSc/HSSC (or equivalent, such as O/A levels with IBCC equivalence)
- The right subject combination for your programme, for example Pre-Engineering or ICS for engineering and computing
- Students awaiting FSc Part-II results can sit the test using Part-I marks
Merit formula
For engineering and computing programmes, NUST has traditionally used:
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| NET score | 75% |
| FSc / HSSC (Part-I or final) | 15% |
| Matric / SSC | 10% |
Because NET carries 75%, a strong test score matters far more than a few extra marks in FSc. Some programmes (for example business or architecture) use different tests or weightings, so confirm in the prospectus.
Test pattern
For engineering, NET covers Mathematics, Physics, English and sometimes Chemistry/Computer Science, with Mathematics carrying the biggest share. Questions are MCQs based on the FSc syllabus. There is no negative marking in the standard NET format, but check the instructions for your series.
A 12-week preparation plan
- Weeks 1–4: revise FSc Mathematics and Physics concepts chapter by chapter. Make short formula sheets.
- Weeks 5–8: practise MCQs topic by topic, including English vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.
- Weeks 9–11: take full-length timed mock tests every two or three days. Analyse every mistake.
- Week 12: light revision, formula sheets and rest before the test.
Tips
- Register for an early series. If it goes badly, you can try again in a later series; NUST counts your best score.
- Time management: do not get stuck on one question. Mark it and come back later.
- Apply for financial aid. NUST offers need-based scholarships and interest-free loans. Apply at the same time as admission.
